It is with great sorrow that I must inform you that two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Johnnie Carter of The Mighty, Mighty Dells passed away this morning due to complications from lung cancer. Carter was an original member of The Flamingos, an early Doo Wop group and joined The Dells in 1952. His unmistakable falsetto tenor was the counterpoint to lead baritone Marvin Junior, who is known for sustaining long notes and emotional delivery.

The Dells had the distinction of being the most enduring vocal group in American Popular Music history having sung together for 57 years. They charted top ten Billboard Magazine hits in each of the past five decades. Although they never won a Grammy, they were beloved by legions of loyal fans.

R&B giants The Dells have lost the true "soul" of Soul Music." And we have lost a great part of the music of our times.

Sincerely,
Nina-Dawne Williams, Esq.
